                                                           Māori

                                                         Flax
Flax is a material used for so many things like, rope, mats, housing, baskets and clothing.

Waka
Maori’s would cut down trees to make a waka, but before they did they would say a prayer to show respect towards Tane God of the Forest.
Maori’s would use the flax to hold the wood together for the waka.

Food
Maori’s would hunt animals like the Moa and other animals and harvest it in a little room high off the ground.
They would also catch kaimoana (fish, crayfish, kina and eels) with nets and fishing hooks made from paua shell, bone or wood.

Weapons
Maori’s used pieces of wood and carved symbols on the piece of wood. They used bone or stone and sharpen them and tied it to the end of their stick with the flax.
A Patu is made from greenstone or wood and can be used in fighting and hunting. It has a short handle with carvings on it.
